Rapidshare changed a lot the layout of his site.
Before, he had a site more "classical", I mean links, html files, and so on.
Now, the first difference is: JavaScript runs the site. If before you just couldn't download files without JS (download counter didn't change), now,
the site don't appear correctly at all.
See image below:
It is has if it hadn't CSS ! (Neither CSS 3!)
CSS3 and HTML 5
Here is an extract that comes directly from Rapidshare.com:
RapidShare has made it its goal to be a pioneer in the field of design, functionality and technology. For exactly this reason we are now counting on HTML5 and CSS3. Both these technologies make it possible for us to plan long-term and to be up to date with everything we do. The goal of our new RapidShare V3 Site has been and still is to get rid of old baggage and to concentrate on what we do best: create innovation.
Advantages of HTML5 and CSS3 on RapidShare
-
More refined design thanks to rounded edges, shadows, multi-backgrounds and much more
-
Drag and drop file upload</li><li>More slender and therefore faster website, we are The Anti-Waiting Company! -
In the near future flash will have become redundant for audio and video playback
Experience RapidShare as it really is

Interesting detail, the download session is not stored anymore in cookies (you can download with them disabled !), but in the URL, that is rewritten ! For instance, a URL like http://rapidshare.com/files/123456789/abc.rar will look like http://rapidshare.com#!download|489l33|123456789|abc.rar|4627! Probably they rewrote their AJAX script...
One last thing: Rapidshare has enabled SSL for free users (that's is a good idea indeed).
And you ? Do you thing that RS is better now than before ?
