Steven Sinofsky, who works in Microsoft, said:

Windows Explorer is a foundation of the user experience of the Windows desktop and has undergone several design changes over the years, but has not seen a substantial change in quite some time. Windows 8 is about reimagining Windows, so we took on the challenge to improve the most widely used desktop tool (except maybe for Solitaire) in Windows. Alex Simons on the program management team authored this post with a detailed look at the evolution of Explorer and the major improvements to its interface and functionality for Windows 8. Judging by the passion on file operations and user interface design, we know this is an important subject so we expect a pretty engaged dialog on the topic.

Microsoft has added a ribbon because most user actions - 85% - are done without that main menu, in the top of the window.
Commande entry point usage

The new ribbon will have several tabs with different commands, in addition to the "File" menu. The first, "Home" includes all the popular features of the Explorer (move, copy, new folder etc.).. A second menu, "Share" will not only share but also to burn a zipper or group of files. "View" show the different options for viewing files. Finally, contextual tabs are also present, they are displayed according to the records as you explore or function you use (photos, videos, research etc.). Microsoft has also added some features to its browser, increased the number of keyboard shortcuts, and adjusted the interface for widescreen. It will also be possible to customize your ribbon by selecting the features you prefer and reducing the size of icons.

The ribbon is maybe an improvement in user experience; if you use Office 2007 or 2010, is it really useful ?
Some people prefer "traditional" menus, rather that categorized links. Anyway, some features that were present in Windows XP (as up button) and removed in Vista may return.

The file copy will also be greatly improved - since Windows XP (or even more), it has almost not changed.

It may look like: Windows 8 File Copy
Many missing features (adjust speed, change copy list, ability to pause...) will be changed; it will follow applications like SuperCopier or TeraCopy.

We are waiting for Win 8 !
